Bansko is a unique settlement of international importance for tourism. This is the resort from 1979 to the present day. Along with the beauty and charm of the Pirin mountain, there are many natural attractions and historical places here. Among them are preserved remains of ancient fortresses in the area of Staroto Gradishte, also known as Sitankale. It is located 4 km southwest of the city. The area of Yulen, located along the course of the river Demyanitsa, arouses no less interest. Not far from the Old Settlement there are burial mounds left over from the Thracian era. To the west of the Bansko resort is the ancient Dobrokyovitsa area, dating back to the 2nd century. Bronze medical instruments left from the former medieval settlement were found there. This part is also known as the area of St. Troitsa, located in the northeast direction from Bansko. To the southeast of the resort of Bansko are the remains of the churches “St. Ilia” and “St. George”.

Bansko is famous for its originality and culture, Renaissance architecture and unique culinary specialties. Among the many places that can be toured and explored in the area around Bansko are the Banska Fortified House and the Nikola Vaptsarov House-Museum. The first landmark is a typical house with a specific subtype of a revival house. It was built in the 18th century, and at the end of the 60s of the 19th century, it was completely completed. In it, you can see plan-spatial compositions, functional construction and organization borrowed from the Chepin house. The cellar and utility rooms are located on the lower floor of it, and in its upper part there is a longitudinal veranda with a boaria, a mesilnik and kashchi, along with two guest rooms. There are also wooden beams and a stone core typical of that time. Overall, the house is unique, built of stone, mud and lime mixture. It was once the most secure unit of the self-defense building in Bansko.

In general, the resort of Bansko is famous for its incomparable architectural, historical and artistic heritage. Numerous monuments and buildings testify to it, as well as preserved notes left by famous and unknown persons.

Nikola Vaptsarov House-Museum arouses interest for everyone who sets foot in Bansko. It was once the birthplace and home of the great Bulgarian poet. The complex is accompanied by an ethnographic exhibition, an icon exhibition and has become the home of the arts.
